Bekah Duchateau
About Bekah
I spent most of my young life in Guangzhou, China where I loved, nurtured and cared for newborns that my family fostered. After high school I found a maternity clinic in the Philippines offering midwifery training and decided to “give midwifery a try” because it sounded really interesting… little did I know what I was getting myself into! I saw my first birth on September 6, 2014. Two and a half years later, having gained tremendous hands-on experience in an accelerated program, I moved back to the US after thirteen years overseas. I did an internship at a high-volume midwifery practice in Washington state, then moved to Oceanside, CA where I worked by the beach preparing for the NARM exam to become a Certified Professional Midwife. There, I met my husband, Daniel. Daniel and I moved to Los Angeles, and I worked at birth centers while building my own home birth practice. We rescued a puppy and named her Hollyhock, and a year later we welcomed our beautiful daughter Audrey to the world safely and smoothly at a birth center. I’ve stepped away from working at birth centers to commit fully to my own growing home birth practice. I love homebirth. It offers endless opportunity to find personalized ways to care for and build trusting relationships with my clients. Home birth and all the care leading up to it is holistic, it’s intimate, and it’s completely unique to each person’s story.
