Shiane Nicole Archer
My path to midwifery began early, pressed against the glass of a hospital nursery as a child, watching swaddled newborns through the window. Years later I found myself behind that same glass, a registered nurse now, spending eight years caring for newborns and new mothers in postpartum and the nursery, with time devoted to lactation as well. Then came the birth of my own son in 2020, and everything after was shaped by it. My path into midwifery was built largely through mentorship and hands-on experience alongside my preceptor, formalized through my education at the National College of Midwifery, where I attended over 300 births along the way. I have since supported more than 200 births as a licensed midwife. I keep my caseload intentionally small so that the same midwife who walks with a family through pregnancy is the one present at the birth. Malta means a place of honey, a refuge, and that is what I hope this practice is for every family we serve.
