About Maria
I come from a lineage of midwives and traditional healers with roots in Central America. My journey into midwifery began with a desire to offer families a different experience of pregnancy and birth—one where they feel heard, respected, and supported in making their own decisions. For the past 16 years, I've had the privilege of walking alongside families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My approach is calm, attentive, and deeply personal. I believe in giving birth the time and space it deserves, while bringing the clinical knowledge and experience necessary to recognize when additional support is needed. Through La Ceiba Midwifery, I bring together modern midwifery care and the ancestral traditions that have shaped my understanding of healing. I consider it an honor to be invited into a family's home during such an intimate and transformative time.

Education
I am a California Licensed Midwife (LM) and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), credentialed through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). I trained through the National College of Midwifery, with an emphasis on community-based, out-of-hospital birth. I have been supporting families since 2010, attending hundreds of births in home and birth center settings. I am also a NARM-registered preceptor, supporting the clinical education and training of student midwives. My additional training includes lactation education, Spinning Babies® techniques, homeopathy, and Indigenous healing modalities. I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine at Yo San University, continuing to deepen my understanding of integrative reproductive healthcare.
